On March 21, 2026, z2o Sara Zanin will inaugurate, in the spaces of via Alessandro Volta 34, Rome, The Dancefloor, the second solo exhibition of Adelisa Selimbašić, curated by Michele Spinelli. The exhibition marks the artist’s first engagement with the architecture of the gallery’s new exhibition space and coincides with a powerful body of painting that introduces a decisive evolution in her artistic trajectory. Over the years, Selimbašić has developed a recognizable visual language, based on essential painting focused on the human body as a field of plastic and emotional research.

Her paintings eliminate all narrative and theatrical elements, presenting the body as an unstable and relational structure. In this series, the artist also makes a shift on the chromatic level: the palette becomes more compressed and controlled, thanks to almost monochromatic fields that hold the image in a dense suspension, accentuating an internal conflict. The title suggests a collective and rhythmic dimension, avoiding any descriptive approach; rather than representing a recognizable imaginary, Selimbašić absorbs a layered cultural memory. The compositions focus on the legs, fleshy columns and segments traversed by constant tension, balanced between control and movement.

Knees bend, muscles compress, lines take on a sculptural quality. Tights, understood as a political skin historically associated with the construction of femininity and the performance of gender, produce transparencies and chromatic vibrations that interact with backgrounds reduced to the essential. An image of the body emerges as a temporary architecture of a fragile community. In dialogue with the spaces of via Alessandro Volta, the large-scale works amplify the verticality of the gallery and construct a path where the visitor is invited to physically engage with the images.

Adelisa Selimbašić (b. 1996) is an Italian-Bosnian artist living and working in New York. In 2021, she graduated from the Venice Academy of Fine Arts with a Master’s in Painting. Her pictorial research aims to imagine a world in which the sense of inadequacy does not exist, opening to a nonconventional perception of the body. Through scenes drawn from everyday life and an essential figurative approach, the artist reinterprets the idea of femininity, focusing on the complexities of human experience, desire, tension, and the need for physical contact. Her practice is based on a dense and almost tactile painterly presence, achieved through careful manipulation of color: working with a contained palette, Selimbašić mixes pigments directly on the canvas, allowing the tones to meet and transform, pushing toward a plasticity that challenges traditional representations of the female body.

In recent years, she has presented numerous solo exhibitions in institutional and international gallery contexts.
